Description
About this image
Nicknamed the “Space Snail” for the coiled, shell-like sweep of its spiral arms, this image is based on a photograph taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2005. It shows the giant Whirlpool Galaxy (NGC 5194) and its companion galaxy, NGC 5195. The bright spiral structure is made up of long lines of stars and gas laced with dust, and the interaction between the Whirlpool Galaxy and its smaller neighbour is thought to be responsible for those prominent, snail-shell-like arms.
How it is produced
The image is printed in a 1.2mm thick Aluminium sheet using dye sublimation ChromaLuxe technology. This produces an image that is stunning in its quality and level of detail. Printing on aluminium results in a glossy image with bright whites and vivid colours.
What else
The image is supplied with a hanging kit. Choice of image sizes.
